Bethany Beach to Receive Beach Replenishment

The Town of Bethany Beach is pleased to announce the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Philadelphia District, has received construction funding to move forward with the contracting process to repair the Bethany/South Bethany and Fenwick Island Coastal Storm Damage Reduction projects in Delaware. This funding is provided by the Flood Control and Coastal Emergencies (FCCE) program, which enables USACE to repair projects damaged by severe storm events at 100 percent Federal cost.

This project is a joint efforts of the Army Corps’ Philadelphia District and DNREC. Construction will not take place until after the summer season.

The project will involve dredging sand from approved offshore borrow areas. The sand will be pumped through a series of pipes on our beach. This newly deposited sand will then graded into a dune and berm template designed to reduce potential damages to infrastructure, businesses and homes.

A big thank you to our Congressional delegation and most especially Senator Tom Carper whose tireless effort on behalf of coastal Delaware was instrumental in this project moving forward.
