Stormwater management and drainage was ranked as the second highest priority of Bethany Beach citizens in the Town's 2004 Survey, behind beach replenishment.
Public Works crews work throughout the year to improve and/or prevent flooding as much as possible. Maintenance activities include: clearing obstructions and debris from the ditching systems, inlet and catch basin cleaning, and culvert pipe obstruction removal. Many of the large drainage projects identified in the 2002 engineering study have been completed. Small scale projects to improve overall drainage in Town continue to be identified and completed by the Public Works Department as time and funding allows. These construction projects are limited to the off season months of November - March.
